Time in Nature to wander

I’ve been tapping into parts of myself that maybe I’ve subconciously left behind—things or activities that I know bring me joy, but still wouldn’t make time for.

Recently I’ve been part of a local wildlife tracking class based out of Montpelier. Wandering in the woods is one of my favorite things to do. The excitement of never knowing what you might come across, and there is a deep sense of belonging. When I’m able to read nature’s signs, I can better understand where I come from—the earth!

Below are some tracks I found at a local spot near by the Winooski River called the Intervale. It was quite a startling surprise! At first I thought it was a Great Blue Heron leaving behind some tracks since they frequent the river, but could also be a Great Horned Owl! The more I look at them the more I do think it’s an owl. You just never see them walking in the wild!

We are well into spring, flowers are popping up all over town. Each year I forget how much joy I feel when I see color coming back into my world. Seasons for me are the ultimate test of patience. I love these purple crocuses I stumbled upon while walking to the coffee shop the other day. The coloring is so much like irises, but the five petals are really interesting to me.

Speaking of purple flowers—I have finally made one of my FAVORITE wildflowers, Chicory! These pop up everywhere on the forest preserve trails back home. They bloom in late spring, so I have yet to see them here in Vermont. They’re part of the dandelion family, and Chicory root is wildely used in teas and coffee subsitutes. I’d love to make a dandelion pin to pair with this one! Hmmm.. so many ideas!

I’ve also created new back cards! This was a long time coming. Not that the old ones had anything wrong with them, but I felt like they needed a refresh using brown as my brand color (brown is my second favorite color behind yellow, and yellow didn’t seem right for this, hah!). The back has a line of blue to resemble the water’s edge where cattails like to thrive (thanks to Eric for that wonderful idea!)
